The first series of the Les Nauticales Trophy has all the hallmarks of becoming a "classic".
An enchanting setting, (the Bay of La Ciotat), a stimulating context (Les Nauticales de La Ciotat, a Boat Show from Marseille Provence Métropole), challenging weather (mistral then mistoufles, all beneath the spring sun), exemplary organization and the bar set high: all the ingredients of a great event.
The first day of competition is extremely challenging: a violent mistral swept the bay with gusts over 30 knots ... Prudently, the first race start is delayed till 15:30, when it got underway in a still strong, but more manageable wind ... The spectacle is on: after a tough ascent upwind toward the pier at the foot of the boat show, the Longtze rounded the windward mark, and let fly under spinnaker ... the word is not an exaggeration. The descent is truly spectacular at speeds of over 16 knots. A regatta at acceleration, in a manner of speaking! In this game, the experience of Nicolas Bérenger speaks volumes: he finished first for the day, ahead of Laurent Abignoli’s boat.
The next day a moderate west wind dominates, which allows for 6 rounds on a tactical course, all raced close to the Boat Show. Real navigation and racing pleasure.
